What to expect FROM THIS YEAR’S VIRTUAL EVENT
THE ACTIVITIES BELOW ARE FIRM FAVOURITES DURING OUR ACTUAL KITE FESTIVALS.
International Kite Making Workshops
Participants are supplied with kite kits and instructed by experienced international kiters on how to make and fly traditional kites from their home countries, at no cost to the participant. Children and adults welcome.
Individual Local Kite Making Workshops
Three workshops offered on each day to groups of 60 participants each. Free kite kits are provided and participants are guided through the kite making process to offer participants the experience of making and flying their own kites.
Kite Decorating Workshops
Children are invited to decorate Tyvek Paper Kites; though they are not guaranteed to fly due to weight variations of the decorations, children are encouraged to explore their creativity and indulge in the freedom of expressing their creativity.
Heritage “swaeltjie” Kite Making Workshop and competition
An age old craft dating back to the 1900’s, this traditional kite making technique has been passed down from generation to generation. Join a workshop and be guided in the process of making a traditional “swaeltjie” kite. Then, have the opportunity to fly your creation and participate in the sought after Heritage Competition, free to participate and stand a chance to win a cash prize.
